of 10-year-olds in Sub-Saharan Africa cannot read and understand a simple story.
Reading is the foundation of every subject, and of BECE results.
Ghana's BECE Chief Examiner's Report (2023) flags recurring weaknesses in language use and comprehension. Even in strong schools, the gap is seldom the teaching. It is:
- 1Reading motivation. Learners read only when required, and decode words without fully understanding them.
- 2Structured reading time. Reading gets squeezed out of a crowded timetable.
- 3Access to engaging books. Too few age-appropriate books, and cost puts them out of reach for many families.

Reading on Perbi Cubs: a quiz after every book, points for every quiz passed.
Reading that is engaging, measurable and rewarding
Perbi Cubs moves learners from reading only when required to reading every week, and shows leaders, teachers and parents exactly how each child is progressing.
4,000+ levelled books
African and international, in school and at home.
Placement test
Every child starts at the right level, from "learning to read" to "reading to learn".
Quizzes & medallions
Points, medallions and leaderboards that keep learners coming back.
Reports that matter
Weekly, monthly and end-of-term, for leaders and parents.
The Quiz made reading champions. Now every learner can become one.
The Inter-School Reading Quiz has inspired thousands of students and put reading in the spotlight across Ghana. But the true power of reading goes far beyond trophies and applause.
The Reading Champions Scholarship takes what drives every Quiz champion (books they love, a reason to read every week, and celebration when they succeed) and builds it into your whole school, Basic 2 to Basic 8.

A premium reading program, made affordable
